As the administrator, team facilitator, or team leader, make sure that Essential skills are included in every IEP, Accommodation plan, or General Education Plan.
Failure to master Essential Skills is why learners struggle to learn. Make sure that your team has included all of the Essential skills that each student needs to master.
Look at the Reading, Writing, and Math Frameworks. Do they cover the skills that your learners so often struggle to master? Use the Frameworks to teach your colleagues, your students, and the student’s family. Then, discover how your colleagues are addressing all of the other skills that your students also need to master.
Find the chapter that is your area of expertise. Make sure it covers the Essential Skills that you commonly bring to each student’s program
Use the structure of the Frameworks to teach your colleagues about what you do- And also use it to teach your students! Share your expertise with everyone on your student’s team. Invite them to participate in the student’s learning success across settings. Even small amounts of time can help reinforce learning across settings.
